10TH NEC-ELECT: IYC Parliament congratulates Dr. Okotete, pledges legislative support

The leadership of the Parliament of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has congratulated Dr. Doubra Collins Okotete and members of the newly-elected 10th National Executive Council (NEC) to lead the foremost Ijaw youth organisation, describing their victory as a reflection of the confidence and trust reposed in them by Ijaw youths across the globe.

In a congratulatory statement issued on Sunday, July 12, 2026, jointly signed by the Speaker of the IYC Worldwide Parliament, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Allen Tomoni, and the Clerk, Comrade Williams Ayoromiegha Junior, expressed optimism that the new leadership would reposition the Council for greater relevance and impactful service.

According to the Parliament, the emergence of Dr. Okotete as the 10th President-Elect of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide signals the beginning of a new era of purposeful leadership, strategic advocacy, youth empowerment, and sustainable development for the Ijaw Nation.

The lawmakers stated that they were confident the 10th NEC, under the leadership of Dr. Okotete, would provide the vision and direction required to advance the interests of Ijaw youths while strengthening the Council's role as the foremost platform for promoting the aspirations of the Ijaw people.

"Your election is a clear testimony to the trust and confidence reposed in you by the Ijaw youth across the globe," the statement reads, and added, "We are convinced that under the purposeful and dynamic leadership of Dr. Doubra Collins Okotete, this 10th NEC will usher in a new era of renewed vigour, strategic advocacy, youth empowerment, and sustainable development for the Ijaw Nation." 

The Parliament also pledged its unwavering support and legislative collaboration with the incoming executive, assuring that it would work closely with the new administration to ensure the successful implementation of programmes and policies that would benefit Ijaw youths at home and in the diaspora.

It further assured the President-Elect and members of the 10th NEC of constructive partnership, saying the Parliament would continue to provide the necessary legislative backing to enable the administration to record remarkable achievements during its tenure.

"As the Parliament, we stand ready to partner with you, offering our full support, legislative collaboration, and constructive contributions to ensure that your tenure records unprecedented achievements for the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide and the broader Ijaw people," it pledged.

The parliamentary leadership urged the incoming executive to uphold the core values of the Ijaw struggle by providing visionary, transparent, inclusive, and accountable leadership capable of fostering unity, justice, peace, and sustainable development across the Ijaw nation.

While wishing the President-Elect and his team a successful tenure, the Parliament expressed confidence that the administration would leave behind a lasting legacy of progress, transformational leadership, and meaningful impact on the lives of Ijaw youths worldwide.

"We urge you to lead with vision, integrity, inclusiveness, transparency, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of the Ijaw struggle. May this administration be marked by unity, progress, justice, and tangible impacts that will positively transform the lives of Ijaw youths home and abroad," it prayed.

Dr. Doubra Collins Okotete emerged as the 10th President-Elect of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide following the Council's national election in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
