Chief Hon. Sheriff Mulade, the National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State in the 2027 general elections, has unveiled a Seven-Point Development Compact as the foundation of his proposed legislative representation, with a pledge to prioritise job creation, economic renewal, environmental justice and ethnic harmony in Warri.

Mulade, who is the Ibe Serimowei of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, unveiled the agenda on Tuesday, September 22, during a homecoming visit to the palace of the Pere of the Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba, where he sought royal prayers, counsel and blessings ahead of the 2027 polls.

The House of Representatives hopeful said the compact would serve as the blueprint for his legislative interventions and constituency-development programmes if elected to represent the Warri Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

Central to the development agenda is the proposed revival of the Escravos Free Trade Zone, which the NDP flagbearer described as his foremost legislative priority, stressing that the project has the potential to attract investors, stimulate commercial activity, create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and restore Warri’s place as a major economic hub in the Niger Delta region.

Mulade also identified the pressing challenges confronting Warri and its neighbouring communities, including oil spills, environmental degradation, unemployment and what he described as inadequate federal presence despite the strategic contribution of the area to Nigeria’s oil economy.

According to him, the Seven-Point Development Compact is designed to address these concerns through people-focused representation, economic opportunities, support for youths and women, community development, environmental advocacy and stronger engagement with relevant federal agencies and institutions.

He stressed that sustainable development in Warri must be built on peace and collaboration among the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo ethnic nationalities, pledging to promote friendship and understanding among traditional rulers and people of the three ethnic groups, noting that unity remains indispensable to lasting growth and stability in the constituency.

“Without peace among the thrones, there cannot be sustainable development in Warri,” Mulade said, assuring that his ambition would be guided by inclusiveness and a commitment to serve every part of the federal constituency.

The NDP candidate, who is a known peace advocate, said his decision to first visit the Gbaramatu throne was in keeping with tradition and his belief that "charity begins at home." 

The Delta State Chairman of the NDP, Hon. Emeka Umerah, appealed to the Pere and people of Gbaramatu Kingdom to support Mulade’s ambition, describing him as a capable candidate with the experience and commitment to deliver effective representation.

Also speaking, Chief Orhadahwe Godwin Okite, PhD highlighted Mulade’s record of peacebuilding, scholarship support, youth empowerment, job creation initiatives, assistance to vulnerable persons and community-development interventions across the creeks.

Responding, the Pere described Mulade as capable, competent and experienced, and expressed pride that a son of Gbaramatu Kingdom was aspiring to represent Warri Federal Constituency.

The Pere also commended the presence of Urhobo and Itsekiri representatives in the delegation, describing it as a positive demonstration of the unity required for peaceful and progressive elections in Warri Federal Constituency.

The homecoming visit was wrapped up with offer of royal blessings by the Pere on the NDP candidate and his entourage, praying for his protection, wisdom and success.
