2027: Stakeholder tasks INEC on urgent implementation of Warri Federal Constituency ward delineation report

A business and community leader in Delta State, Chief Joseph Wuruyai, has tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to not delay any further in the implementation of its earlier submitted report on the ward delineation exercise it conducted in the Warri Federal Constituency, especially as the 2027 general elections in the country are fast approaching.
Chief Wuruyai, popularly known as Jowurus, made the call on Tuesday in Warri, while noting that it became imperative due to the continued silence by the electoral Commission despite numerous calls from majority of stakeholders in the constituency for it to swing into action.
The entrepreneur, who is the Bebeboughawei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West council area, also warned INEC on the political crises its delay could cause the constituency if it continue to delay or fail to implement its findings.
"I want to believe the Independent National Electoral Commission is not sleeping on the Warri Federal Constituency fresh wards delineation report, especially as another general election year is coming.
"As a major stakeholder, I am calling on the Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to as a matter of urgency to stop foot dragging but do the right thing as it concerns the fresh wards delineation it conducted in the federal constituency of Warri.
"The Commission should be aware of the implications of not implementing the report. And so, as far as majority of stakeholders are concerned, there is no justification in the delay. This matter has lingered on for too long and it will not change the reality on ground which has been brought to light," he added.
Chief Wuruyai further charged the Commission to ensure that the rights of the people of the constituency to vote is not infringed upon by the electoral umpire, warning that the continued delay by INEC is not in the interest of justice, fairness and equity.
He said, "INEC has already released the report of its findings and it is in the public. Therefore, it should understand that keeping silent rather than act on the findings is an abuse of its responsibilities and a threat on its integrity to protect voters' rights.
"Also, as long as INEC continued to stay its hand of execution of the report concerning the fresh wards delineation exercise, it is pervading justice as well as denying fairness and equity to the people, who, over the years, have been subjected to an unfair process," he stressed.
It would be recalled that the Supreme Court mandated INEC to conduct a fresh delineation of electoral wards and units in the three Warri local government areas of Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West, a judgement which implied that the new delineation will be the basis for any future electoral activities in the constituency.
