7TH MEGA ELECTIVE CONVENTION: NAGS unveils plans, focuses on Culture and Identity

The National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS) has announced plans for its 7th Mega Elective Convention, scheduled to hold from July 24 to 26, 2026, at Kokodiagbene Community in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The three-day convention, themed "Culture and Identity: Preserving the Heritage, Values and Legacy of Our People," is expected to bring together students, traditional rulers, political leaders, academics, youth stakeholders and other distinguished personalities to deliberate on issues affecting the educational, cultural and socio-economic advancement of the Gbaramatu Kingdom.

According to the convention programme, activities will commence daily at 10:00 a.m. and will feature leadership engagements, cultural discussions, networking opportunities and the election of new executives to steer the affairs of the association.

The event will be graced by the Pere of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba, who will serve as the Royal Father of the Day.

Renowned academic, Professor Benedict Binebai, Creator of the Niger Delta University (NDU) literary innovation, is billed to deliver the keynote address, while High Chief (Hon.) MacDonald Igbadiwei, President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and Prime Minister of Gbaraun Kingdom, Bayellsa State, will chair the occasion.

Other prominent personalities expected at the convention include the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, who will attend as the Principal Guest, and His Excellency Dcn. Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, immediate-past Deputy Governor of Delta State, who is also listed as a keynote speaker.

The Executive Chairman of Kokodiagbene Community, Comrade Ark Selegha, and Apostle (Dr.) Mathias Zion Amaye, who will serve as the Spiritual Father of the Day, are also expected to play key roles during the event.

The convention is being hosted under the leadership of Douye Simon, President of the National Association of Gbaramatu Students, alongside the convention planning committee chaired by Comrade Ubebe B. Kester Denyifa, with Comrade Akintiye Babatunde Afeez, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), serving as National Students' Adviser.

A host of eminent personalities have also been listed as Special Guests of Honour, including High Chief (Hon.) Sheriff Mulade, National Treasurer of the Ijaw National Congress (INC); Rt. Hon. Ekpemupolo Idukedoumene Samuel (Sampolo), Leader of the Warri South Legislative Arm and Chairman of the Delta State Councillors' Forum.

Others are Comrade Kingsley Arerebo Egbejule, President of the Gbaramatu Youth Council Worldwide; Comrade Ziukerebai Wazo Oyinkuro, Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Gbaramatu Clan; former Gbaramatu Youth Council Presidents Hon. Shedrack Ebikeme and Hon. Christopher Wuruyai; former NAGS leaders Hon. Seiyefa Ekpemupolo and Hon. Ebi Adams Tonjoh; as well as Mrs. Glory Ebi Otutufeghe, President of Gbaramatu Female Graduates.

The association noted that the convention is designed not only to produce a new leadership, but also to strengthen unity among Gbaramatu students while promoting the preservation of the kingdom's rich cultural heritage, values and identity for future generations.
