The inspection team from the department of housing in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has given a thumbs up to the contractor of the renovated Kokodiagbene community Guest House, GEOTimitek Nigeria Enterprise, for doing an impressive job and delivering on the project.

The commendation was given by senior Architect Alero Ofoh during the DESOPADEC inspection team's visit to Kokodiagbene community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West council area of Delta State, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

"From the last time we came to scope this project, I actually thought nobody can do it, that it cannot be renovated," revealed Arc. Ofoh, after the inspection of the renovated guest house and its facilities in company of her colleagues, Mr. Apohi Blessing and Mr. Akpos Obeila.

"We were thinking of demolishing it and doing a fresh construction but because of the budgetary provision, we decided let's give it a try for the renovation and this contractor happened to be the one that's bid for the job.

"The last time we came here, inside this place (the guest house), they were cooking, pulling periwinkles, the building was in a mess. So that was why we were thinking of demolition, to start it afresh," she noted.

Arc. Ofoh, who was impressed with the state of the renovated 10 rooms Guest House project, noted that the contractor actually went out of his way in the renovation to ensure the project was top notch.

"We were surprised when we came back after it was awarded to the contractor. It was like a fresh construction; in fact nailed it on the head, he did a final job on this renovation. If you look at it, you won't know that it was a renovated job. Inside, he went out of his way to buy all these fancy fittings, and even the outside lights, all these POP fittings. The truth of the matter is that the contractor did his best for this renovation," she applauded.

On the issue of abandonment of projects and payment to contractors, she said that there is no abandoned project in DESOPADEC, and that most contractors leave site because of the lack of finance, prompting some to take loans, which she assured that the Commission will pay.

The contractor, Chief George Timiyan, the MD of GEOTimitek Nigeria Enterprise, said the desire to deliver a robust project was influenced by his passion to contribute to the development of his community hence the use of the best materials including the popular Peretim quality paints, andespecially when the project if fully completed will serve as a revenue generating project for the community.

"This happened to be my community, so I want to really do the work as if I'm building my own house. Moreover, it's not good to do an inferior job in your community or anywhere that government or DESOPADEC give you a job. That's why we take time to finish this work.

"Also, the Guest House will be used by visitors and it will offer the community the opportunity to generate revenue if it is totally completed as there are a few things that we are still requesting from DESOPADEC such as the furnishing, the sewage. And if it is completed, the guesthouse can generate money for the community," he stressed.

Chief Timiyan, who is an opinion leader in Kokodiagbene community and the Miyenkeremowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, also appealed to the management of DESOPADEC to reward contractors with timely payment to help boost more confidence.
