DISA: Waterwei assures of better welfare as Oyazimo calls for unity, lists achievements

The newly inaugurated President of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Izon Staff Association, DISA, Pastor Waterwei Clifford, has assured staff of Ijaw extraction in the Commission of his desire to collaborate with stakeholders "to better the lot of each and every staff member".

President Waterrwei, alongside other executive members Orubu Emmanuel Ayibakuro (Secretary), Ebitimi Judith Kwamande (Assistant Secretary), Eme-Okirika Eninidi (Financial Secretary), Oki Angela Amalayefa (Legal Adviser), Timinimi Eunice Layefa (Public Relations Officer, P.R.O), Ukuli Janet (Welfare Officer), Christmas Andrew (Provost), and Marita Whisky (Treasurer), were sworn into office on Thursday, February 26, 2024.

The DISA President, in his inaugural speech during the ceremony that held in the Okowa Towers, DESOPADEC, thanked the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; Niger Delta leader and Ebidouwei of Izon Nation, High Chief (Dr.) Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo; Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; the Executive Director of Social Services, DESOPADEC, Chief Favour Izoukumor; the Ijaw Commissioner, Chief Spencer Okpoye, among other stakeholders.

He also appealed to the stakeholders for their support to the Ijaw body in the Commission while he promised that his led exco are ready to work with them for the prosperity of Ijaw staff.

"I want to assure all staff of Ijaw extraction that my team would leverage on our leaders within and outside, to bring about growth and prosperity to one and all by God's grace," he reassured.

Meanwhile, the outgone president of DISA, Engr. Felix Oyazimo, urged the newly inaugurated exco "to be inclusive, proactive, resilient, responsible, and responsive in your administration to surpass my achievements and move the Association to an enviable height."

Oyazimo also called on his colleagues and members of DISA "to be united and cooperate with the new government" while he assured of his availability and willingness "to offer support and advise, where necessary."

The outgone president who noted that the tenure of his led exco was the longest, albeit faced with challenges such as disunity and lack of monthly dues payment, were however able to make significant contributions to the growth of the Association.

Among the achievements he listed include opening of bank account, production of constitution, a brand new staff bus, establishment of a cooperative society, interfacing between staff and Board members, upscaling of recognition and participation in the Commission, mobilization of Ijaw staff on social activities, reinstatement of sacked staff, among others.

DISA was birthed on March 17, 2026, as an Association of staff of Ijaw extraction with its pioneer president Engr. Isaiah Ogah (of blessed memory) and Oyazimo as 1st Vice President, later substantive president, before re-election in 2022.
