The completion of a renovated guest house formerly built by the defunct Egbema-Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation (EGCDF) but renovated by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) through GEOTimitek Nigeria Limited has been given thumbs up by stakeholders of Kokodiagbene Community in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West council area of Delta State.

The fully furnished guest house which was completed with the project sum of N100 million, according to the contractor, Chief (Engr.) George Timiyan JP, the Managing Director of GEOTimitek, will serve as a source of revenue to the community and will provide visitors comfort during their stay.

The completed project in Kokodiagbene Community was inspected on Friday, July 24, 2026, by personnel from DESOPADEC led by Arch. Alero Ofhor, who lauded the contractor for going beyond the project scope to make it more befitting for public use.

The team lead of inspectors expressed delight at the new face of the renovated project as she recalled how, on her first visit to the project site, it had been used by indigenes to trade periwinkle, but now that it has been completed, it is hard to know it was once used for such a purpose.

Speaking on the project, the chairman of the community, Comrade Ark Selegha, said the project is timely especially as the community is hosting the National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS) 7th Mega Elective Convention which will attract influx of guests to the community for the next three days.

Also speaking, an elder in the community and former secretary, Francis Ayeku, stated that the completed renovated guest house is a welcome development and will help ease accommodation problem especially during festive celebrations.

Other stakeholders tow the same path, but in addition, commended the contractor for a superb job done as well as appreciated DESOPADEC for seeing the need to renovate the once dilapidated project.

However, stakeholders lamented the neglect of infrastructures in the oil-rich community despite its massive contributions to the state and federal government as host to oil flowstations.

They therefore appealed to the Commission to complete other projects that have been abandoned in the oil-rich community and to embark on other projects such as the construction of jetty for the community's secondary school, especially as the community is a host to oil companies such as Chevron and Neconde, and is deserving of government attention.

Meanwhile, the contractor of the completed renovated guest house project, Chief Timiyan, has appealed to DESOPADEC to encourage contractors with timely payments for job done, stressing that delayed payment by the Commission is worrisome and causing financial challenges to contractors.

The GEOTimitek Boss revealed that the payment for first phase of the project which was completed in March last year is yet to be paid, as he appealed to the Commission to fasttrack payment of the furnished project which has been inspected by its officials.

He also recommended to the Commission the construction of a walk-way leading to the guest house as the pathways during the rainy season poses a challenge to accessibility, and the fencing of the project, as well as the need to interlock the surrounding site to add more beauty to the project's exterior.
