OPOROZA: ‘Dabu Chairman’ Dr. Pedro to chair New Year Celebration

The planning committee for the Oporoza Community New Year Celebration, Chief Johnbull Demebi, has announced that the immediate-past chairman of Kokodiagbene Community, Chief (Dr.) Pedro Bekenawei, popularly known as the "Dabu Chairman", as the chairman of the event scheduled to hold in the community playground, on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Recall that the planning committee had previously announced the event in a statement signed by Chief Demebi and High Chief Dr. Nelson Ogelegbanwei (JP), Chairman of Oporoza Elders' Council.

Special guests expected include the Pere of the kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oboro Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba, as Royal Father of the Day; Arch. Bishop (Dr.) Phillip Tonfawei JP as Spiritual Father of the Day.

Others are Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly; Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, Chairman, Maton Engineering Nigeria Limited; and High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Pondi, FNSE, Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) among others.

According to the planning committee, the New Year Celebration will feature among other entertainment activities, a Tug of War (for Men & Women), Cultural Dance, Cultural Display, and Draft Competition, to make the ceremony colourful, with music to be supplied by Prince Isaba Abraham.

The event, hosted by the chairman of Oporoza community, Hon. Emmanuel Ebi Gbanale, is organised to welcome the people of the community into the New Year as well as create opportunities for socialisation.
