BURUTU: Inadequate infrastructures in Delta riverine communities take center stage as NABLOGS MCCD Tour visits Ofougbene
The National Association of Burutu Local Government Students (NABLOGS) rounded up its tour on Day One (Thursday, May 7, 2026) with a visit to Ofougbene Community where the challenge of inadequate infrastructures is hindering access to quality education and basic infrastructures for inhabitants of the riverine community in Iduwini Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The NABLOGS visit, led by its President, Senr. Comr. Eserimokumor Ebipade Gideon, is in partnership with the Office of the Woman Leader, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Iduwini Clan, and Coordinator of Voice of The Ijaw Girl Child, Comrade Akpobolokemi Tamaramisensene Manna.
According to the student association, the visit to Ofougbene is part of NABLOGS educational and community development tour across the eight kingdoms in Burutu, aimed at sensitizing the people on the collective roles that individuals, organizations, school authorities, youths, parents, and community leaders can play in achieving sustainable educational and community development within creek communities.

However, during the tour, serious concerns were again raised, as in Kou Clan previously visited, over the poor state of educational infrastructures and the shortage of teachers in ELA Primary School, and the Ofougbene Secondary School, both in Ofougbene Community.
Quite surprisingly, it was also discovered that the Ofougbene Secondary School lack enough classrooms as it currently has only three classrooms block, which is far below the standard structure expected of a secondary school. To make up for the inadequate classrooms, secondary school students in senior class have to borrow classrooms from the community primary school for learning.
NABLOGS lamented that a school meant to accommodate at least six classes should not be operating with such inadequate infrastructure.

The Association therefore called on the local and the state governments to be sincere and be committed towards the development of riverine communities by providing the basic educational facilities and services needed for effective teaching and learning condition.
The visit was also marked with an anti-drug campaign rally sensitizing youths, students and community members on the dangers and effects of drug abuse and substance addiction on individuals and society, followed by town hall meeting sessions with NABLOGS MCCD resource persons that engaged with community members on topics such as Drug abuse and its effects, unplanned pregnancy, community development and youth responsibility; thereby providing an opportunity for meaningful interaction.
Ofougbene community leaders, during the town hall meeting also lamented the persistent lack of telecommunications network, poor healthcare services and inadequate access to clean drinking water in their communities, while appealing on the government to come to their aid.

The NABLOGS National President, Senr. Comr. Eserimokumor Ebipade Gideon, while addressing participants during the tour, stressed that while communities have roles to play in their development, the government however remains largely responsible for providing the basic infrastructures and services needed for people to survive and grow.
