DELTA STATE COUNCILORS SOLIDARITY CUP 2026: We are sending clear message to Deltans, Nigerians — Rt. Hon. Ekpemupolo
The Leader, Warri South-West Legislative Arm, and Chairman, Delta State Councilors Forum, Rt. Hon. Ekpemupolo Idukedoumene Samuel, has stated that the Delta State Councilor's Solidarity Cup 2026 football competition organised by the Forum is intended to "send a clear message to the state and the nation that Delta State councilors stand firmly behind the Renewed Hope and the MORE Agenda" of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
Throwing more light on the football competition in a chat with PENGlobal, the Legislative leader and host of the competition revealed that the Delta State Councilor's Solidarity Cup 2026 will be held across the 24 local government areas of the state, with the Theme "Renewed Hope For MORE Agenda Through Grassroots Unity".
He said the competition is aimed at uniting the states's councilors, strengthening grassroots, and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellencies, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the MORE Agenda of the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who is the Father of the Day, under the Chairmanship of the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.
Other special guests include the deputy governor, His Excellency, Sir Monday Onyeme, and the Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Chief (Hon.) Isaiah Esiovwa.
According to Rt. Hon. Ekpemupolo, the competition will hold in each LGAs across the three senatorial districts of Delta North, Delta Central, and Delta South, from Tuesday, March 10, 2026, to Thursday, April 16, 2026.
On the venue, he revealed that the sports initiative will flag-off on Tuesday, March 10, at the Nana College, Warri, with the grand finale to be played on April 16 at the Steven Keshi Stadium, Asaba. In between the opening and closing ceremonies, matches will be played simultaneously across the three districts, with a winner emerging from each districts.
The football competition will flag-off in Nana College on its opening day (Tuesday) with a match between Warri South-West Legislators versus Warri South Legislators at 2pm.
"This tournament is not just about football, it is about building bridges, fostering unity, and renewing hope for the MORE Agenda through grassroots strength. Together, we show Delta State and Nigeria that councilors are united in vision and purpose," Rt. Hon. Ekpemupolo said.
He further noted that, the competition, which has over "500 councilors across the state mobilized, this tournament demonstrates collective support for the MORE Agenda of our Governor come 2027."
With its laudable vision and purpose, it is expected that the Delta State Councilor's Solidarity Cup 2026 football competition will serve as a booster to unite grassroots leaders irrespective of ethnic, political, and religious affiliation, towards embracing a collective vision to build a prosperous state and nation for all citizens.
