HEALTHCARE: COCOSA '98 Set donates med–equipment to Central Hospital, calls for support of Oborevwori's M.O.R.E Agenda

Members of the College of Commerce Old Students' Association, COCOSA, class of 1998, have donated some set of medical equipment to the Central Hospital in Warri, Delta State, as part of its ongoing efforts as Deltans to contribute their quota in support of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's M.O.R.E Agenda towards boosting quality healthcare delivery to patients.

The donated equipment were handed over by Nurse Juliet Alabrah, chairperson of COCOSA '98 Set, in company of the vice chairman, Prosper Ogidi, among other members, to Mrs Joyce Atuma, Head of Administration of the Central Hospital, who received them on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

The equipment comprises of one infusion pump, one infusion stand, a Digital Blood Pressure machine and consumables for patients in the Children Emergency wards; a Nebulising compressor machine and consumables for Labour Ward; a Nebulising compressor machine and consumables for Maternity Ward; and a Nebulising compressor machine and consumables for Special Care Baby Unit.

"The first goal is for us to give back to the society," said Nurse Alabrah, who is also a staff of the Central Hospital under the Children Emergency Department, and then added, "so that we can also support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's M.O.R.E Agenda" knowing that "the governor cannot be everywhere and the governor cannot do everything."

On the choice of the medical equipment, Nurse Alabrah revealed that it was borne out of an event that played out in the children's ward which necessitated the body of old students to team up to solve the challenge.

"I was on night duty and I had a four-year-old child, who was using this Nebulizing machine (the child is an asthmatic patient). Then a nurse in Labour Ward ran down to the Children Emergency ward, begging for the Nebulizing machine that they want to use it. And I have a child using it. So, it was a dilemma for me. Should I remove this machine and give to the nurse to go and give to the woman in labour, or continue with the child? So, I felt so bad.

"A few days later when we had our meeting, I now brought it to my class set and told them that I have a pain and this is something that I cannot do. So I want us to collaborate and buy these machines (because I've done the need analysis, all the wards we went to, they don't have these things).

"So they bought the idea (even some of our classmates in Diaspora) and they agreed that we should put heads together and make this thing possible," she narrated.

Nurse Alabrah admonished fellow Deltans and Nigerians to "cultivate the habit of giving and sacrificing" including rendering assistance to the sick in the hospitals through blood donation among others, as well as within the community to persons that are in need.

"The message we are sending is for us to touch lives in a positive way. It all boils down to services to humanity. It's not necessary that you are a nurse or a doctor before you render services to humanity; what you do to impact lives and to change lives, that is what matters," she opined.

The Head of Public Relations Unit in Central Hospital, Mr Uche Nwaedozie, called on other organisations to take a cue from the COCOSA Class of 1998 Set in looking out for the well-being of others in the society.
