IKANTU'S DECLARATION: N'Delta activist joins call for Gbaramatu descendants to return home

Coordinator of The Creek Initiatives and the pioneer president of the Association of Gbaramatu Female Graduates in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West council area of Delta State, Amb. Endurance Bekenawei Nwachukwu, has joined other stakeholders in the coastal kingdom to call on "other descendants to follow in the footsteps of the Ikantu people" to "affirm their true heritage."
Amb. Nwachukwu call is coming after the people of Ikantu's declaration affirming their heritage to Gbaramatu Kingdom, at a press briefing that laid to rest claims that the community is an Itsekiri settlement.
In a statement titled, "A Joyous Homecoming: Ikantu People Reunite With Gbaramatu Kingdom", the activist welcomed the Ikantu people for taking the bold step to identify with their heritage and assured them that the kingdom is solidly behind the Ikantu people.
"The joy of a family reunited is beyond measure," Amb. Nwachukwu said. "On this historic occasion, the pioneer president of the Association of Gbaramatu Female Graduates and Coordinator of The Creek Initiatives, Amb. Endurance Bekenawei Nwachukwu, proudly joins His Royal Majesty, Oboro-Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba—the 26th Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State—and the good people of Gbaramatu Kingdom, in warmly welcoming our brothers and sisters, the descendants of Oweizibiri, back to their ancestral home, Gbaramatu Kingdom.
"The Ikantu people are assured of the unwavering support of the Gbaramatu Kingdom at all times. While mischief-makers may attempt to sow seeds of doubt and division, we encourage the Ikantu community to remain resolute in their bold and strategic decision—one that sets a strong foundation for sustainability, peace, and development within the land," she counseled.
"In the words of the Fiyeiwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Godspower Gbenekama: 'Gbaramatu Kingdom will not tolerate any form of intimidation or harassment against the Ikantu people for their brave and wise decision to reaffirm their unwavering allegiance to the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom and the Ijaw nation at large'," she added.
The former president of Female Graduates also call on those opposing the Ikantu declaration to respect the decision of the people and that the authorities in the State should take note of the Ikantu people's decision.
"Let it be unequivocally stated—as clearly reaffirmed during the Ikantu Leadership Press Conference held on June 6, 2025—that the Ikantu people maintain full ancestral, cultural, and traditional ties with Gbaramatu Kingdom. They strongly condemn all attempts by any individuals or groups to misrepresent or re-align their heritage with the Itsekiri nation.
"We therefore call on government agencies, academic institutions, the media, and international observers to take due note of this rightful declaration and to respect the Ikantu people's place in the cultural and ethnic landscape of Nigeria.
"We call on other descendants to follow in the footsteps of the Ikantu people. Let them rise and publicly affirm their true heritage—for the sake of their unborn generations and the countless blessings that await them. The ever-hospitable people of Gbaramatu Kingdom will continue to extend hands of fellowship, unity, and love to all returning descendants. We are one family, and we shall always remain so."
