The National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for Warri Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, PhD, has pledged to pursue constructive advocacy, strategic engagement and an inclusive approach to representation if elected to the House of Representatives.

Mulade, a United Nations Peace Ambassador, environmental rights activist and the Ibe-Sorimowei of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, made the pledge during his official campaign flag-off and consultation meeting with supporters and residents of the constituency, on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Addressing the gathering, the House of Representatives hopeful said his aspiration is anchored on promoting peace, unity and development among the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo ethnic groups, as well as other residents of Warri Federal Constituency.

He maintained that the 2027 election should be driven by considerations of capacity, competence and the ability of candidates to effectively articulate the aspirations of the people and attract meaningful development to the constituency.

According to Mulade, despite Warri Federal Constituency's significant contribution to the nation's economy, the area has not received what he considers commensurate federal attention in infrastructure, empowerment and employment opportunities.

He said, "If elected in 2027 into the House of Representatives, Warri City and its environs would be given the deserved special attention through constructive advocacy and engagement with all relevant stakeholders."

Mulade further promised to work collaboratively with the local, state and federal governments, as well as relevant stakeholders, towards the revitalisation of the Warri and Koko seaports and the Warri Industrial Park.

He said his representation would also prioritise programmes capable of creating employment and empowerment opportunities for youths and women, particularly through agriculture, fisheries and skills acquisition initiatives.

Emphasising the seriousness of his aspiration, the NDP candidate said he was neither in the race as a placeholder nor to merely participate in what he described as a "political funfair", but declared that, "I am here to close the gap through constructive advocacy, engagement and inclusive approach," while adding that he intends to provide what he described as an independent and original voice for the people of Warri Federal Constituency.

The peace advocate also called on the people of the constituency to rise above ethnic divisions and embrace cooperation, stressing that sustainable development would be difficult to achieve in an atmosphere of persistent disagreement and distrust.

"We cannot continue to fight ourselves, we cannot continue to deprive ourselves, we cannot continue to destroy ourselves," as he urged the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo people to build a broader relationship founded on trust, peace and unity, noting that the diverse ethnic groups share common aspirations for infrastructure, employment, empowerment and improved living conditions.

Presenting himself as the NDP's "Light of Hope" for the constituency, Mulade said his ambition is to provide people-oriented and inclusive representation that would strengthen peaceful coexistence and accelerate development across the three Warri local government areas.
