LEADERSHIP: Disregard Extension of Okrikpa's Tenure — Odidi Community Urges
The national president of Niger Delta Youth Council and also stakeholder in the Odidi federated community, Amb. (Chief) Bene Mamamu, speaking on behalf of the Odidi community, has denied reports of an extension of Prince Preye Okrikpa's tenure as Chairman, stating that no official gathering was held to approve such an extension.
According to the statement, the purported congress summoned was boycotted by community members, leaders, stakeholders and lacked the authority to make such a decision.
The community emphasized that Prince Preye Okrikpa's tenure is set to expire on April 28, 2026, and that the outgoing executive does not have the constitutional right to extend their own tenure.
The statement noted that key stakeholders, including the eldest man, second to third eldest man, and other influential members, were not present at the meeting.
The community has urged the public to disregard reports of the extension, stating that they will officially brief the public after a stakeholders' meeting.
However, the statement suggests that the meeting in question was a routine gathering of the outgoing executive, lacking the legitimacy to make decisions on tenure extension.
While condemning the concocted news report, he appealed to the general public to disregard such reports coming from people of questionable characters.
"The outgoing executive only gathered for their normal meeting. They don't have the constitution right to extend tenure for themselves. Worst, the eldestman, second to fourth eldestman and key stakeholders were not present in the purported meeting. The general public should disregard them. We will officially brief the public after a stakeholders' meeting"# the statement reads.
