Many young people in these communities are talented and ambitious, but lack exposure to the wide range of career opportunities available to them."
"The program also served as an eye opener for students on self-realization, helping them to understand scope of studies and the needs and demands of our coastal region," it added on the objectives achieved.
◼️SHARED EXPERIENCE
The Foundation which said the tour was a success, attributed the outcome to the "immense cooperation from community leadership and management of the 34 schools visited".
Sharing the experience of the exercise, the Foundation stated that, "During the mentorship program, professionals and mentors from different fields interacted with over nine thousand five hundred students (9,500) across 34 schools, sharing their experiences and offering valuable advice on career development.
"Participants were enlightened on skilled and unskilled professions such as medicine, engineering, entrepreneurship, education, technology, and public service. The mentors emphasized the importance of education, discipline, and determination in achieving career goals.
"One of the major highlights of the program was the interactive mentorship sessions where students were encouraged to ask questions about academic pathways, scholarships, skill development, and personal growth. These sessions helped students gain clarity about their interests and future aspirations," the statement added.
Touched by the lack of modern technological tool in some of the schools visited, the Foundation went out of its way to gift two of its Hewlett-Packard (HP) computers to the schools that had need.
"We perfectly understand the important of technology, so this prompted us to give our two set of modern HP computer to schools the need is great, to help equip them with basic knowledge on computers and further programs we will key into in the future," the statement revealed.
◼️PROGRAMME'S IMPACTS
"The program also stressed the importance of self-belief and resilience. Students were reminded that although riverine communities may face challenges such as limited infrastructure and access to resources, academic failure from the part of government and multinational, these obstacles should not prevent them from pursuing their dreams.
"The impact of the program was evident in the enthusiasm and renewed motivation of the participants. Many students expressed a better understanding of career choices and the steps needed to achieve their goals. Community leaders and educators also appreciated the initiative, recognizing its potential to transform lives and promote development within riverine communities," the statement noted.
