TANTITA: 'We don't want instability in Niger Delta' — ADIWPAC warns against non-renewal of pipeline surveillance

The Association of Delta Ijaw Women for Peace and Culture (ADIWPAC), led by its President, Comrade Mesahrun Ejiro Stella Bobo, has cautioned Niger Deltans to refrain from actions that could plunge the Niger Delta region back to the era of incessant pollution, insecurity, and crises.

The women group said the warning has become imperative and is in response to the campaign of calumny sponsored by fellow citizens in the region against the Federal Government's renewal of the pipeline surveillance contract that is currently handled by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, TSSNL, a firm owned by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo.

In a statement issued by Comrade Bobo in Warri, Delta State, on Wednesday, ADIWPAC stated that it is rallying behind TSSNL because of the positive impacts the security firm has had in the region ever since it has been handling the pipeline surveillance contract.

According to Comrade Bobo, one of such impacts by TSSNL is boosting security in the region through the engagement of youths, an act she said has greatly reduced tensions in the region, citing the recent disagreements among the various ethnic nationalities in the Warri Federal Constituency comprising Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West council areas, arising from the Independent National Electoral Commission's fresh delineation exercise.

"If you look at it, the recent delineation, if this surveillance contract was not there before, it could have triggered the youth to start communal crisis," said Bobo. "But because everybody's engaged doing one or two things, that trigger for conflict was not there, making us to gain peace in the Niger Delta. So that is one of the reasons we want them to renew the contract to Tompolo," she added.

Speaking further ADIWPAC President noted that the security firm has successfully revived the fishing economy of inhabitants in the riverine areas as the issue of environmental pollution from oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism has been reduced drastically, giving opportunity to indigenous natives to create wealth for themselves.

"Before Tantita was given this pipeline surveillance, the creek was an eye sore because of the kpofire business that seriously affected the fishing occupation. But today, that era is no more, all thanks to Tantita's efforts in ending that occupation of bunkering," she lauded the security firm.

Comrade Bobo appealed to Niger Deltans to join hands together to build the region, not tear it apart because of greed and jealousy, stressing that "the campaign against TSSNL is out of selfish tendencies by those who are jealous of Tompolo, Matthew Tonlagha and High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Pondi's influence because of the good works they are doing.

"Niger Delta is one. It is only in unity can we achieve greatness. Let us not destroy our own out of selfishness and jealousy, because that is the sole reason in the fight against Tantita. Obviously people are jealous of our leaders, which ought not to be because they are carrying many people along," she added.

The women leader urged the management of TSSNL to remain focused and not to be perturbed, vowing that those ganging up against it will surely fail in their mission as majority of the people in the region are in support of the security firm.
