WARRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: INEC gets go ahead on report implementation
The lingering issues surrounding the implementation of the fresh ward delineation exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been put to rest as the electoral body is now set to comply with the Supreme Court's decision.
The development comes after the Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State, dismissed Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/37/2025: EJEYI PHILIP & ORS V. INEC, filed by Itsekiri claimants seeking to set aside the interim report of the fresh delineation exercise released in May 2025 by INEC.
In another development, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Judicial Division, also dismissed an appeal marked CA/ABJ/CV/1457/2025: HON. APPEARANCE AFEJUKU & ORS V. INEC & ORS, and filed by Itsekiri appellants seeking to stop the enforcement of the Supreme Court-ordered delineation of electoral wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State.
According to the court on its judgment delivered on Friday, May 15, 2026, INEC must implement the Supreme Court decision affecting Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West local government areas of Delta State before any electoral process for the 2027 elections can validly proceed in the constituency.
The judgment followed a suit filed by Urhobo leaders in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/31/2026: CHIEF WESTHAM ADEHOR & ORS V. INEC, that challenged INEC’s delay in complying with the Supreme Court’s directive.
The dismissal of the appeal has cleared the way for the final implementation of the apex court’s directive on fresh ward delineation on the Warri Federal Constituency.
The Warri Federal Constituency is made up of Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North LGAs of the state, have the indigenous ethnic nationalities of Urhobo, Ijaw and Itsekiri.
