BIOGRAPHY: Late Mother Mary Olaye AKA Maleke Gets Befitting Burial Rites as Families, Sympathisers Honour Her Legacy
The atmosphere at the Bibopere Zion in Okerenkoko Federated Community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, was a mixture of sadness and eternal expectations as the late Mother Mary Olaye nee Dekawei was given a final Christian funeral rite in honour of her memory before being laid to rest in a Bible-shaped casket on Friday, April 24, 2026.
The late Mother Olaye, who passed away in December 23, 2025, at the age of 75 years after a brief illness and is survived by seven children and 21 grandchildren, is described as a courageous woman that lived not for herself, but dedicated her life to serving God and humanity, and in the process building a legacy that will never fade.
The funeral service which was conducted by the Minister in charge of Bibopere Zion ministry, Snr. Boan. Peter Ebieride German (JP), and Snr. Boan. Friday Adagbabiri, among others, featured Bible readings, singing of praises, biography presentation, testimonials, brief exhortations by ministers in attendance, and prayer for the family, before interment of the body of the deceased in the early evening.

Meanwhile, according to her biography, read by her first son, Mr. Believe Olaye, the "Late Mother Mary Olaye was born into the blessed family of Late Apostle Olusor Emmanuel Dekawei and Mrs. Igbepow Dekawei (née Akpenyin Oluba)—a heritage rooted in love, discipline, and the fear of God.
"Her early years were marked by simplicity and promise. She attended Okerenkoko Primary School (1960–1964), where the foundation of her diligence and quiet determination was laid. Even as a young girl, she carried within her a spirit that would one day touch many lives.
"In 1968, she was married to her beloved husband, Late Apostle Johnson Olaye. Their union was one of faith, patience, and deep love. Yet, like many great testimonies, her journey was not without trials. In her early years of marriage, she endured the pain of delayed childbirth—waiting, hoping, praying—like Hannah in the Bible. Through seasons of tears and silent prayers, her faith never wavered. And in His perfect time, God remembered her, turning her sorrow into joy, blessing her with seven wonderful children—her pride, her legacy, her answered prayers.
"A woman of deep spiritual hunger, she sought to know God more. Her journey led her to the Seraphim School of Theology, Ugbonla, Ondo State, where she was ordained as MARY and set apart for service. From that moment, she lived not just for herself, but as a vessel of faith, humility, and devotion.
"Life for her was never idle. With industrious hands and a determined heart, she labored tirelessly. From tailoring to petty trading, from the bustling trade of crayfish and fish—where she became a respected member of the renowned ABALA-ERE Fish Trading Union—to establishing her own business, MARY J. VENTURES, she exemplified the dignity of hard work. Even in her later years, she remained active in the building materials and cement business, never losing her strength, her drive, or her purpose.
"She was more than a mother—she was a pillar. More than a trader—she was a builder of lives. More than a woman—she was a quiet force of resilience, wisdom, and grace. Her life spoke in gentle tones of kindness, in acts of sacrifice, and in a faith that stood firm through every storm. She gave, she loved, she endured, and she believed.
"Then came that solemn day—23rd December 2025—when Heaven called her home. Though our hearts ache and tears still flow, we take comfort in knowing that she lived a life worthy of honour, a life poured out in love and service.
"Today, we do not just mourn—we celebrate. We celebrate a life of courage, a journey of faith, and a legacy that will never fade. Dear Mother, your footprints remain in the sands of our hearts. Your voice echoes in our memories. Your love lives on in all of us. Rest on, beloved mother, until we meet again at the feet of the Lord."

A social wake-keep ceremony was later held at nightfall in celebration of the life of a mother, who the Transformation Zion City of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church described as "a devoted and faithful member, a committed chorister, a dedicated member of the Prayer Band, and a believer who lived a life of humility, devotion, and service," making her a "shining example of a true Christian living".
