FUNERAL: Our mother is a unique woman – children pay tribute as late Mrs Alice Baby Edi laid to rest

The Edi and the Ejoh family of Inikorogha, Pepe-ama and Oporoza communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Wari South-West council area of Delta State, were joined by other relatives, friends and sympathisers as they pay their last respect to their beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother and grandmother, late Mrs. Alice Baby Edi nee Ejoh, at Inikorogha on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Earlier, the body of the late Mrs. Edi, who is survived by three children, a grand child, siblings, and relatives, was conveyed from the Vennell Mortuary in Warri to her hometown by family members and friends.

According to her brief biography, the late Mrs. Edi was born on October 10, 1961 into the Uluse Eljoh family in Inikorogha community and Pepe-ama community, both in Gbaramatu Kingdom. She married Edi Thursday from Oporoza community and the union was blessed with three children.

She was a successful businesswoman, who owned a provision shop and engaged in fish marketing, a trade that saw her traveling to Warri for supplies and then selling her goods in Burutu market where she relocated to where her husband was a civil servant.

Until her death, Mrs. Edi diligently served as treasurer and participated in the church's sanitation department. She is a devoted mother of shelter of Christ's mission.

In their tributes, the firs son, Timi Edi, wrote: "My beloved mother with unique heart, her love for her children cannot be quantified. The depth of her selflessness is genuinely awe-inspiring, despite her premature departure after a short illness. Her invaluable mentorship profoundly impacted my personal development, empowering me to become the person I am today.

"She made tremendous sacrifices, including sacrificing personal belongings by selling expensive clothes just to finance my higher education. Her wisdom of academic excellence and moral integrity were her highest priorities because she wanted all her children to attain education, even though she herself lacked the opportunity due to finance in her days. Because of her passion for learning and education, she highly put eyes on her children.

"When I misbehaved as a child, she disciplined me to correct me to rectify my mistakes, and later cared for me by bathing and feeding me. Her caring for both her own and other children remain a testament to her lasting legacy. May her soul rest in eternal peace in the name of Jesus Christ," he prayed.

For her second son, Tonbra Edi, he penned down his memories: "My mom's heart is a woman like no other. She gave me life, nurtured me, taught me, dressed me, fought for me. Even till death she didn't stop fighting for me. Most importantly, she loved me unconditionally.

"There are not enough words to describe her. I can't describe just how important my mother is to me and what a powerful influence she continues to be. She is worried without hearing my voice each passing day; she must find a way to hear my voice. My mom is my heart. I am incomplete without her. I pray someday we meet again. Heart you forever, mom," he added.

Her only daughter, Seleckon Edi, briefly wrote: "Words are too short to express my agony and the despair in my heart, but I have solace in the fact that you are in a better place. Death took you away from me, but your loving memories make you still very much a part of my life. I love you, dear mom."

After a brief funeral service in Inikorogha, the late Mrs. Edi was committed to Mother Earth, amidst tears from her loved ones, who bid her eternal farewell.
