TANTITA: Redefining Corporate Social Responsibility in Nigeria's Business Environment by Abai Francis

Never in the history of Nigeria has a private organisation—a security firm for that matter—taken the bull by the horn to raise the hopes of majority of citizens (encompassing the less privilege, low income earners and even the middle class in society) through its monumental and unimaginable philanthropic gestures under the umbrella of the business concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). That private organisation is none other than Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL).

Of recent, the security firm, which has as its chairman, High Chief (Dr.) Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, and Managing Director, High Chief Engr. Kestin Pondi alias Daddy Kess, renovated the historic Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna State, a project commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, September 19; and its newly built 2-storey building in the Warri Medium Security Custodial Centre of Nigerian Correctional Service that will house the National Open University (NOUN) study centre for custodial inmates which was commissioned by the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

According to Tantita's MD during the commissioning of the 2-storey building in Warri, remarked that the renovation of the historic Sultan Bello Mosque "is a landmark of faith and culture" and that the mosque "like this one [2-storey educational edifice] reflects our philosophy that true security is built not only through vigilance alone, but also through investment in people, communities, and the values that bind us together."

These recently commissioned projects add to the long list of other projects the pipeline surveillance giant had embarked on, ranging from community and security projects, welfare and development projects, to other initiatives, all aimed at empowering, reducing insecurity, and boosting the economy of the country.

For instance, some of these projects are: newly renovated Ugborikoko Divisional Police Station in Ugborikoko, Uvwie; Isoko Youth House (Fred Obe Secretariat) at Ozoro, the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Warri Secretariat, the reconstruction of Soldiers' Transit Accommodation at the Effurun Army barracks in Effurun, to mention a few.

Asides building infrastructures, Tantita has also embarked on sustainable rice farming Initiative in partnership with stakeholders to create employment and encourage diversification for oil-bearing communities, empowered 40 youth entrepreneurs across the country with N5 million grant to each to support their businesses, and through its pipeline security has reduced pollution and oil theft which in turn has led to improved air and water quality, improve Nigeria's oil and gas industry rating, as well as overall environmental stability in the Niger Delta region.

The organisation has also touched the lives of countless hapless Nigerians including the widows, market women, the handicapped... with gifts in cash and kind. For instance, the organisation gifted a duplex property worth millions of naira to a visually impaired comedian at the Ibeju-Lekki area in Lagos State, and another three-bedroom property to a skilled guitarist that has no fingers, in Warri, Delta State; and of recent the employment of a freed inmate from the Warri Prisons, among other human acts.

Since the engagement of Tantita by the federal government to secure national oil and gas facilities in the country, the organisation has proven that it is not only committed to revamping the oil-theft infested oil and gas industry, but it is committed to contributing its part to promoting national unity and development. Tantita has proven that if given more, it will do more in the society.

Tantita has overtime proven that patriotism is not just an act reserved for citizens only, but that business organisations can also demonstrate patriotism by expanding their scope of corporate responsibilities beyond just a business strategy of profit maximisation. Rather, every organisation owes it a moral duty to refrain from seeing citizens and the country as objects of gains, but as a resource center that need to be invested in for overall national growth and development.

Tantita has successfully won the hearts of many citizens, not only in the Niger Delta region, but across the length and breadth of Nigeria, with its passionate philanthropic commitment to the well-being of citizens. The organisation is a reflection of the belief system of its founders and management who are naturally philanthropist and take delight in rising up to the needs of the needy. Nothing sums this ideology more than as expressed in the words of Tantita's MD, when he said, "For us at Tantita, it is not just Corporate Social Responsibility, it is a moral duty, a social investment, and a testament to our unwavering belief that Nigeria can only be truly secure when her people are empowered, rehabilitated, and given a chance to thrive."
