DOUYE'S MENU: The Story and Vision Behind The Trending Traditional Food Brand

For Ondiowei Douye Miracle, the Chief Executive of Douye's Menu, cooking is not just a profession, but a hobby that is pursued with a passion for excellence. But rather than go the way of most food vendors by settling for intercontinental dishes, she opted for the local recipes of African dishes, typically Nigerian dishes.

"Cooking has been something I've loved doing since growing up as a child. I started cooking from a very young age," she recalled in a chat with PENGlobal Business on the official opening day of her restaurant on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

Situated along the popular Jakpa Road by Edu Street Junction in Effurun, Delta State, her first customers gathered in their numbers on special invitation in anticipation of what to expect on the unveiling and launch of the food brand. To them, it is a privilege to be invited to be the first to taste Douye's Menu.

The ceremony flagged off after a brief prayer by Pastor David Ogun of the Great Grace City Assembly (GGCA), who performed the unveiling. The next episode that followed was the serving of mouth-watery dishes to guests.

As a child who was saddled with the responsibility of cooking for her younger ones at an early age, that responsibility also found its way into the meals she prepared, as she exercised great care with hygiene practice given top priority. Afterall, for the brand to sell, its food taste must exceed the average expectations.

"I was the eldest, I had to take care of my younger ones. So, I've been cooking. Even if the food is sweet or it's not sweet, my auntie would tell me don't worry, just cook, people should eat. I started cooking for people and people would be like: 'Your food is sweet, your food is nice'. From there I said maybe I should put this into use. Maybe this can bring me money in the future. So here we are," she revealed on the motivation behind the establishment of the local food brand.

The slogan 'Food is Therapy', 'Take a Seat, Grab a Treat', and 'Taste the Goodness, Feel the Difference', which decorated the restaurant's neatly polished walls, further evokes an atmosphere of confidence and comfort in guests.

"Douye's Menu is mainly locally made food, traditionally made food. I make traditionally, everything local, but we also make rice as well, pastries, fries; but our main objective at Douye's Menu is our local food, we are good at our local food," she re-emphasised on the vision driving the brand.

"Like I said, it's a local restaurant and it's not just food for the Ijaws, We are just good at making local meals, not just meals for the Ijaws, but the whole of Niger Delta. We make fisherman soup popular among the Bayelsa people, Oha soup by the Igbos, Owo soup by the Urhobos, Ewedu and Amala by the Yorubas and whatever you can think of. So, we are good at making our local meals," the CEO explained.

On how she feels being the CEO of Douye's Menu, she said, "It has been a dream come true for me. It hasn't been easy though, but God made everything easy. This is just the beginning of greater things for me. I'm hoping years to come, one year, three years to come, I will be in a bigger position and occupying a special place in the food industry. So, this is it!" she exclaimed excitedly.
