ODIDI: Oromoni, NPF, DSS jointly dissolve Okirikpa-led Exco over tenure expiration

The Prince Preye Okirikpa-led Executive Committee of Odidi Federated Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State has been jointly dissolved by the Warri South-West Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni; the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Warri South-West, the Burutu Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and officials from the Department of State Services (DSS), following the expiration of his administration.

The dissolution was announced on Monday, April 27, after a peace meeting convened by Hon. Oromoni, which brought together elders, youths, women, chiefs, Okirikpa and his Exco members, as well as representatives of various interest groups in Odidi community.

The meeting was called to resolve the prolonged standoff that had threatened peace in the oil-rich community.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, sources at the gathering said the intervention of security agencies became necessary after stakeholders established that the Okirikpa-led Exco had overstayed its constitutionally approved tenure, a situation that fueled agitation in the community.

“The resolution to dissolve the Okirikpa-led Exco was unanimous. His administration had expired, and continuing in office was creating tension.

"The Area Commander, DSS, DPO, and the Council Chairman all agreed that the right thing was to dissolve the Exco and allow a peaceful transition,” a community elder who attended the meeting disclosed.

Oromoni, who presided over the peace meeting, said the Council intervened to prevent a breakdown of law and order in Odidi, which hosts strategic oil and gas installations.

“We invited all critical stakeholders — elders, youths, women, chiefs, and the Okirikpa-led Exco — to broker peace. As a government, we cannot fold our hands while different interest groups tear the community apart. The Exco’s tenure has ended, and the law must take its course,” Oromoni stated.

Following the dissolution, the meeting resolved to constitute a Council of Elders to take over the administration of the Odidi Federated Community for a two-week transition period beginning Monday, April 27, 2026.

The Elders’ Council will manage the affairs of the community and oversee the process of electing a new Executive Committee.

“The Elders will administer the community from April 27 to May 11, 2026. Their mandate is to stabilize the community, ensure peace, and midwife a credible process that will usher in new executives,” the communiqué from the meeting read.

The Burutu Area Commander assured residents that security agencies would maintain presence in Odidi throughout the transition period to forestall any breach of peace.

“We are working with the DSS and the DPO Warri South-West to ensure there is no vacuum. Anyone who attempts to cause trouble will be dealt with according to the law,” the Area Commander warned.

Meanwhile, Oromoni appealed to all aggrieved persons to cooperate with the Elders’ Council and shun acts capable of derailing the peace process.

“Odidi is too important to Delta State and Nigeria to be left in crisis. We urge our youths and women to support the elders till the emergence of a new leadership that reflects the will of the people,” the Council Boss said.
